Let's Jet (Bonus Edition). Gene Champagne

With 'Rock And Roll Boy' Gene Champagne found himself for the first time on WoNoBlog. His recently released bonus edition version of his EP Let's Jet he rocks some more.

Let's Jet is an album where the best of modern style rock and roll can be found. Forget Little Richard or Chuck Berry, Gene Champagne taps into the late 70s powerpop, punk and rock as if it never went out of style. And yet the term rock and roll totally fits. What else did The Ramones record then early The Beach Boys and other surf songs at triple speed?

Canadian Gene Champagne used to be drummer in bands like Killjoys and Teenage Head. From behind his kit he must have had ample time to look at how things were done by his band mates; he plays all instruments on Let's Jet and sings as well. (On the bonus tracks: Gene Champagne (Guitar/Vocals) with Neen Youkahana (Guitar), Dan Casale (Drums) and John Connolly (Bass/Backing Vox).) The man knows how to rock alright. The eight songs allow for everything this kind of good time rock music begs for. Singing along, dancing, vigilant nodding of the head, and above all to drink a good pint with your best friends. Fans of Geoff Palmer and Brad Marino should know their way to Gene Champagne's EP.

Don't come running to me that you've heard it all before. Sure, so have I. But when music is played and shared with so much enthusiasm and songwriting skills, who can complain? Gene Champagne has the riffs and solos in abundance, while his melodies are spot on. I thought single 'Rock And Roll Boy' would be the song of the record, it isn't. It even goes as far that I do not have a clue which one of the songs I like best. Then this, then that one.

Hearing is believing, folks and that is what I'm going to leave you with. There simply is nothing more I need to add.

Wout de Natris - van der Borght
