What posts were the most popular in 2021? At the beginning of the year there was an excessive lull of clicking from what Google calls "unknown sources". This changed later in winter, continuing into late spring. Currently there is still some unexplained clicking, circa five per day on the most recent posts, but nothing like this spring, let alone 2019 to early 2020.
As a result, you will find most posts are from winter to late spring. All have in common that activity from the artist or the label boosted numbers as well.
This summer I stopped providing links to other websites. It appears to have helped stopping unwanted attention, but at the same time I no longer provide people of good will to the websites where you can listen to the music or even buy it. This feels like abandoning the artists as well, but so be it. I wish I knew whether all this automated clicking harms or does not matter. If anybody would like to comment or share expertise on this topic, please do.
The most "popular" in 2021 was a post from 2018 by the way; a discussion about a play list with obscure, forgotten songs from the 60s on Spotify. The post has taken over on the all time list as well and all because hundreds upon hundreds of mysterious clicks from unknown origin, mostly in October and November, but picking up once again in the last three days. This is a shame, because the previous number 1 post scored so well because of a link to this blog on the band's social media and website.
Next year there, hopefully will be a more level playing field for the posts, although I doubt whether any will ever reach the all-time list again, simply because of that tremendous number of false clicks.
Here we go:
10. Zappa '88: The Last U.S. Show. Frank Zappa
9. Week 22, 10 Singles
8. Ten Singles, 2021/18
7. 10 Singles, 2021/8
6. Death Of A Cheer Leader. Pom Pom Squad
5. Transit Tapes (For Women Who Move Furniture Around). Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys
4. Ten Singles, 2021/7
3. Week 28 / 10 Singles
2. Week 24 / 10 Singles
1. Week 23 / 10 Singles
The compilations of singles clearly are the winners, which stands to logic as ten, since summer five, different acts are able to support the post and as soon as a few do, the numbers get a boost.
We wish you all the best for 2022 and that loads of great music may come our way. HAPPY 2022!
Wout de Natris
