Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash. Black Nite Crash

Black Nite Crash is around for 20 years and has spent about 30 members in that period of time. Even at the time between working on its new and fifth album changes in the line-up occurred. Jim Biggs is the constant in all the line ups and it is voice you hear most on Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash.

The six piece band certainly knows its way around psychedelic rock. If anything I liken this album to the latest release of The Black Angels, 'Wilderness of Mirrors'. An album I truly like and Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash comes a long way here, I can tell you. This album has the power behind the psychedelic sounds, a combination that sits well with me.

That toughness comes with the rhythm section that plays with force and determination and the guitars that are whipped about in a serious way. Black Nite Crash is not a band to hold back when playing. At the same time it plays songs. Yes, dark ones, as the sound is in the deeper register, awash with sound effects, giving the music a mysterious and even spooky atmosphere.

Musically Black Nite Crash delves into the treasure trove of 1980s postpunk. Elements of The Cure and The Cult are all over this album. The 80s are combined with the darker levels of psychedelic rock of this century. Without ever going overboard. I'm sure a band like A Place To Bury Strangers has its fans, but to my ears there's a limit to what they can take. Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash holds these sort of elements but without losing the ability to distinguish individual instruments. 'In Time', the third song on the album is a great example how all these elements come together. 'In Time' rocks, containing all the elements mentioned.

Biggs shares the vocal duties with guitarist Claire Tucker. One of the three guitarists in the band, the third is Sharim Johnson. She gives a totally different quality to the band. 'Tie Me Down' is a psychedelic country rocker no less. Quite a surprise in between the rest of the album. Despite the dark sound, consistency here, it is a moment of rest in a loud rocking sea.

If you are looking for an original album, you are at the wrong address with Black Market Crash. Unless you have never heard an album like this before, you will hear familiar sounds and outsets. What you will also hear, is a band that is really going for it and has the songs to do so. Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash does exactly what it promises. Your ears are literally washed with the sound of Black Market Crash. Sponged and soaped by all its frontal attack, rinsed with the small musical surprises added to the songs.

Looking back can be nice but only if a good result for today comes from it, where music (and a lot of other things) is concerned. It is here that Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash satisfies. An album for 2022 it is, with all the nostalgia combined with contemporary urgency it needs to succeed.
