I have been to Spain multiple times, I enjoyed, the good weather, the culture, all kinds of tapas and paella's, cerveza's, sangria, Jarabe de Palo and what not, but never had I suspected that all lines of 60s girls pop and late 70s punkpop would converge somewhere in Spain to produce Heatwaves. This is pre-Lee Hazelwood Nancy Sinatra, The Sangri-Lah's, 'Under The Boardwalk' and the pop side of Blondie all tossed into one. Led by a voice to fall in love with, Ana Beltrán's.
A voice full of innocence, of life still ahead, of dreamy days from long ago waiting for life to happen. In a way the way Ms. Beltrán became the singer of Heatwaves sounds like a dream come true. The founding members, José Dolz and Luis Sanchez, heard her sing during a karaoke and asked her to join the band. They both play in other bands, but I can't imagine one of them being as good as Heatwaves. In pop enthusiasm and perfection by an unknown band I can only compare Complete Recordings to that obscure record 'Catchall' by the band Swag, a one album band comprised by members from other bands as well. Pure pop and perfection all around.
I could continue in the vein but all other words are superfluous. Where pop is concerned this is the real thing. Nothing less than a great party for all. Just go out and listen. Do your ears the greatest pop favour you can imagine, because as I already wrote, there's honey dripping from Ana Beltrán's voice.
Wo.
