Lambrini Girls can be found on this blog twice before with singles in 2024. Both did not hit me as hard as the songs on Who Let The Dogs Out do. Not until the very end is there a form of compromise in the form of a song that allows for some melody. And then the album is over.
In hindsight a song like 'Big Dick Energy' is just as loud as the rest of the album. In isolation it does not come across as hard and loud like it does as part of a whole album.
In 2024 I was totally surprised by Amyl and The Sniffers' third album, 'Cartoon Darkness'. So why did I immediately like that album and am I hanging on for dear life listening to this one? Two things, melody and great guitar solos. And that changes everything in how the aggressive singing comes across. Amy Taylor and Phoebe Lunny could be sisters where their approach to singing is concerned.
Brighton's Phoebe Lunny (vocals/guitar) and Lilly Macieira (bass) will get the attention their music deserves, I am sure of that. Lambrini Girls will first make the venues and then the summer festivals explode this year. The music will take care of that. It may be that the music is better to digest in a live setting than in the living room.
Can I answer my opening question? No, not yet, yet the album is released today, so this will have to do. Who Let The Dogs Out has the energy and quality a good punk albums needs. That is different from wanting to play it in my living room. Let me leave it there for now. But not without letting you in on the almost dedication of the album: “You know how Fleetwood Mac almost dedicated Rumours to their cocaine dealer? I think we should dedicate this album to all the booze we bought at Tesco.” Noted!
