The Sleeveens. The Sleeveens

There are records that really do not need more than a few words. The Sleeveens is that kind of record. From the very first opening riff the band takes off and does not land until the very end. Punkrock from beginning to end is what The Sleeveens is all about. Old school style to boot.

The Sleeveens are too young to have played it at the time of The Undertones, The Ramones, etc., etc. The band's members are certainly old enough to truly appreciate the music and wanting to play it in the 2020s. The Nashville (!?) band consists of Stef Murphy who met Stiff Little Fingers' guitar tech Jamie Mechan and decided to write some songs together. This went so well, that the two decided to form a band. With drummer Ryan Sweeney and Eli Steele on board, they called themselves The Sleeveens, an Irish term for a trixter.

There's nothing tricky about The Sleeveens though. The band's music is as straightforward as you can get. With one feet put well in the past and the other in the pool where enthusiasm and energy is found, the band truly goes for it. From opener and the band's first single, 'Give My Regards To The Dancing Girls' to closing song 'Paulie Says' you will find the real thing. Throw in a cover of Northern Ireland''s finest The Undertones, 'Get Over You', and what can go wrong? Truly nothing. The Sleeveens deserve a major breakthrough. It's a long time since I had this much fun with a (post)punk album.
