Bored. Mood Bored

In March Mood Bored debuted on this blog and here is the seven song EP of the band. The trio met in school and formed a band, with obvious success. In fact, if this music is the result of the band members being bored, share a bit of that boredom with me, please.

Mood Bored plays the kind of alternative pop that is a mix of dreamy singing, a good rhythm and music that balances between the light and dark with the former often winning. Singer and bassist Myrthe Driesenaar takes her listeners along in her mood swings. Her voice is perfectly able to take the listeners into different situation and feelings. Her dreamy voice can all of a sudden take on an unsuspected urgency, like in 'Vibe Like Edie', to immediately sooth you to sleep in the final song 'Join The Ride'.

That is all at the end of Bored. It starts with the fun and upbeat song 'Ladadee Ladada', with its almost floating chorus. The band, Daan Stuyven on guitar and Timo de Wit on drums, play a stop-start rhythm that is interrupted by the ultimately dreamy chorus and then it is all released for a great ending. 'Ladadee Ladada' has three faces in one song, the light, the dark and the explosion. Almost like very expensive fireworks the song is.

'Easy Going' has a sixties vibe, as in a Nancy Sinatra hit mixed with French girl pop singers from those days or Lana del Rey with a rock band behind her for people listening to music from the here and now. 'Easy Going' is not that easy going. The band is hard at work to keep up with singer Myrthe. She's as relaxed as can be, the band has to work hard to play the beat and create the vibe.

Mood Bored falls into a nice range of female fronted bands that are gaining/have gained popularity. Pip Blom, Pom, Wolf Alice, Blood Red Shoes, all different, yet with this pop feel that Mood Bored has in abundance. This is a debut EP holding so much promise. Mood Bored knows how to make a song work. The school of music arts in Tilburg can be proud of its new graduates. This is a band that has set a great first step and undoubtedly has more points to score in the future.

There's only one snag. This is music for 20somethings, so the bio tells me I now see. So, I shouldn't be listening and better stop here before someone tells me to stop.

Ha, I don't care. This is fun music and I intend to keep listening to it for some time to come. Bored is a very nice debut EP. Congratulations!
