Rise Above It All. Jane Willow

Artwork: Dave Keegan
After her breathtaking show in Haarlem, where she played her to be released single, release day is here and it is time to point you to this nice piece of music.

Rise Above It All is a song that shows another side of Jane Willow. The song is a little more direct, soulful and swinging than her other songs released to date. The organ provides a level of warmth that endears immediately.

I am not a Joni Mitchell connoisseur but if anything there are faint traces of her music in here. This single is a serious song. It also could be seen as a motto. "I want to rise above it all", something every artist should aspire to in order to have a chance at being heard before others. Jane Willow is on that brink of being heard more.

Rise Above It All is a song that deserves to be heard. It has that modesty that surrounds the singer, while at the same time it is a statement. The musicians accompanying her give the song a boost. The drums are prominent, the organ, as said, warm, the bass subtle yet present. It is the guitars that purely serve the rhythm. Together they produce a solid bed. Not loud, no, subtle but straightforward with little variations that make me prick up my ears. Over it all Jane Willow sings with her warm voice, ever more confident. She should be as this song is another pearl. It won't be long before she can fill a necklace.
